I've been reflecting on the talk I gave on Recruitment & Retention at the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditorsconference in Wales last week.
1st of all, thank you to all the speakers who covered an array of topics, including Artificial Learning, Machine Learning and Advanced Data Analytics, the newly published Global IIA Standards, Real Time Assurance and Aligned Assurance, all followed by a fascinating talk by Sandro Boerion the Future of the Internal Audit Profession.
My presentation came immediately after Sandro's, (a tough act to follow), and after I'd talked through the Evolution of Recruitment, the State of the Internal Audit Recruitment Market, and then the things YOU CAN DO to maximise your chances of recruiting the right people into your teams, my closing point was that if you can't attract, recruit and retain the right people into the profession and into your teams, you will not be able to do any of the above, and the future of the profession will be a short one...
I am mindful that I have a bias that puts recruitment at the top of the agenda, but as someone with 20 years' experience attracting people to, and recruiting people into the Internal Audit profession, I genuinely believe that this topic is not one talked about enough!
