Chief Risk Officer – FTSE 250

The Audit & Risk Recruitment Company (ARRC) have been retained by a FTSE 250 listed business to secure the employment of a Chief Risk Officer. This is a newly created position that will report in to the Director of Finance. Long term, it is hoped that the successful candidate will achieve promotion to Chief Finance Officer.

Our client is a leader in the design and manufacture of low volume, high value electronic products for industries such as Defence, Transport, Aerospace and Energy. In recent years, it has grown by acquisition and thus operates a federated structure with a relatively light-touch Head Office function. With the recent hiring of a new CEO there is a resolve from Board level down to centralise its Governance capability and modernise its approach to Risk. The hiring of a CRO is fundamental to this strategy.

As CRO, responsibilities will include performing a thorough evaluation of the company’s current Risk Management offering and preparing a strategy, framework and series of amendments for approval by the Executive Committee, Board and Audit Committee. You will summarily report on these findings and continually appraise the effectiveness of Risk Management.

You will provide training and guidance to all Divisions of the business to embed a Risk culture and achieve effective Risk Management and compliance. This will include reviewing and analysing Risk registers to assess trends and common themes. You will ensure that the business has a process in place to identify Risk as part of day to day operations, particularly in the areas of strategy development, projects and investments. Also, you will implement Risk mitigation strategies for any high-profile Group initiatives and projects.

The ability to engage with stakeholders and gain buy-in will be a key measure of success for this role. You must be able to build relationships with all levels of seniority and communicate Risk effectively to all employees.

To be successful with your application, you will be a leader in Risk Management with experience in Finance or Internal Audit. You will likely have worked in heavy industries such as engineering or manufacturing and/or for a business that creates low volume, high value products. You will be capable of operating at the top tier of a FTSE-sized business and will have tangible experience at this level.
